In support of the local community, the band held a two day produce sale in the back parking lot of the school on September 28, 2024 and September 29, 2024. All 140 members of the band, in addition to approximately 20 band parents, came together to sell fruits and vegetables at an extremely low price (as little as 2 dollars per pineapple).
Lead Director Armando Robledo has been a part of the produce sale since it began in 2015. Every year his favorite thing is how enjoyable it can be doing the produce sale.
“Just the fun that we have with the kids,” Robledo said. “We have a great time selling and seeing all the community being brought together.”
Band member Lydiannette Santana Acevedo, grade 10, was at the sale for her second year having a great time selling produce with friends.
“It’s honestly very fun, even though it’s hot we still have fun, we all get together,” Santana Acevedo said.
An estimated 600 to 800 parents, teachers, and community members came out to take advantage of the low prices and engage in family fun.
“It’s very surprising the amount of people that actually come out,” Santana Acevedo said.
One of the many Cy-Ridge parents was there supporting her senior band member. One of her favorite things about coming to support the band during the produce sale is the teamwork being displayed.
“I love all the people that come out to support us and I love how everyone works together and they get it done.” She said. “The kids work so hard when they’re helping people.”
Along with the produce there were also barbecue being sold. The barbecue was supplied by a restaurant called Country Fresh.
“We started doing it because we used to feed the kids but then we were like ‘why don’t we sell it to the public’, and so sure enough we started doing that as an added fundraiser,” Robledo said.
