Rams got talent
December 7, 2014
Cypress Ridge High School held its annual talent show, hosted by Stephanie Siddall and Sarah Pierson, in the auditorium on December 6, 2014. This year, students were able to use their cell phones to vote on the winner by texting in a number code for their vote.
The five finalists were Dominique Huerta, who did a guitar and vocal solo, the drum line group Konundrum, brothers Ben and Frank Yi as a vocal duet, the HOLA Dancers, and Alanna Robertson who performed a vocal solo. At the end of the show, the audience used the voting codes on their talent show brochure to choose the top three winners.
The winner was senior Alanna Robertson who sang the hit song “I’m Not the Only One” by Sam Smith. The audience was astonished with her performance.
Second place went to the drum line, Konundrum. The group of eight performers had a very quirky yet outstanding performance that was full of neon lights. Tenth grader Austin Longoria performed in three talent show performances, Konundrum’s performance included.
“It was very hectic to practice for three different performances, but it was worth every second of it,” Longoria said. “Spending time with my brothers playing music is my definition of paradise.”
In last year’s talent show, Konundrum also won second place.
“As with any performance, there was room for improvement,” Longoria said. “I think we placed second because we brought something new to the table. Our drum performances are extremely unique and give the audience something they’ve never seen before.”
Third place went to the HOLA dancers who performed a dance mix. The girls have dazzling sequin costumes, and the guys had matching black shirts. Sophomore Neftaly Astello, one of the students who choreographed the dance, was proud of their performance.
“With the time we worked together it came out better than expected, so it was good,” Astello said.
Students did not know what to expect from this year’s show. Senior Christian Alvarado Dominguez was very intrigued by it all.
“I expected a lot of singing, but it was pretty interesting,” Dominguez said. “Konundrum was off the charts. It was perfect. This talent show kind of exceeded my expectations.”
All the more, this year’s talent show truly showed that the Rams got talent.
