A sticky situation supports Relay for Life
November 14, 2014
In support of Relay for Life, on Friday, November 14, Assistant Principal Martin Drayton was taped to the wall just outside the commons during B lunch.
Before the actual taping, the qualifier to decide which AP would suffer through being taped to the wall was a Penny War, where the AP with the most donated coins would have to face the wrath. Drayton won through lots of coercion from students, especially by Christopher Washington and Benjamin Jefferson, the morning announcers at the time.
The total amount earned from the AP Penny War was $89.76.
During the taping, students were allowed to buy pieces of duct tape to stick to Drayton. The pieces were a dollar each and added up to $87, making the grand total of earnings for the fundraiser $176.76.
Drayton knows both survivors and victims of cancer within and around his own family. He wanted to support in any way he possibly could.
“I felt like it was purposeful,” Drayton said. “I was honored to support such a great cause.”
While stuck to the wall, Drayton constantly requested water and for students to put away cell phones.
