November 10, 2017
After two months of school, freshmen students are getting the hang of their high school experience. Between classwork, extracurricular and social activities, freshmen Lydia Vasquez, Alaysiah Carrier, and Symaria Perkins have worked to adjust to the high school lifestyle since the very first day of school on September 11.
On the first day of school, Vasquez and Carrier were both nervous, as for Perkins she was wondering if she was going to pass or fail this year.
“And thinking of all the cute boys,” Perkins said.
Both Vasquez and Carrier felt the transition was not as difficult as they might have expected and did not experience a lot of change upon entering high school.
“Somewhat not really it’s the same as junior high, we still can’t use our phones still strict on dress code which I think is dumb but there is a bit more freedom just a little, the school is bigger and the tutorials is the difference,” Vasquez said.
For Perkins, nothing is the same as junior high school and she is not liking the differences. Upon entering high school, she expected a completely different outcome, Perkins expected for high school to be fun make memories with friends and just have an amazing adventure these next four years.
“People changed, just everything changed; it’s nothing you expected, people that I thought I was gonna be friends with forever don’t even talk to me anymore also there’s so much drama already and it’s barely the beginning of the year,” Perkins said.
Although they had different reactions towards their first day of high school, it was these ladies first year of having a homecoming game and dance. Vasquez and Carrier seem to have enjoyed themselves but Perkins, on the other hand, did not attend.
“It was actually fun I had a good time with my friends I gotta see how a homecoming game really is and I even met some new people,” Carrier said.
The girls were able to see how a high school football game was, especially a homecoming football game which is where the school comes out to support the football team if they were to either win or lose the game.
“No I didn’t go to the dance, but I went to the game it was pretty cool experiencing a homecoming game seeing lots of kids showing school spirit even though they lost it was still fun to go support the football time and hang out with my friends,” Vasquez said.
But besides all the fun at the game the girls had, they have plans for their next few years in high school. Which their main focus is to work hard, focus on their grades and find out what they want to be in the future.
“Work hard stay after school if I need to, keep up with my grades just focus,” Vasquez said.
As for Perkins, she plans on doing very well these next four years so she can get into a good college and have a good career.
“Focus on school, not on boy ’s, I wanna do good especially because I wanna be a lawyer don’t wanna mess up these years because this is my future,” Perkins said
