Having Fun on Halloween

It may be a day for children, but teenagers love joining in on the holiday fun.

October 31, the day of Halloween, the day children get to wear some scary costumes to scare the people or just to dress up for the fun of it and also all the free candy they get from people they don’t even know. Which may be one of the main reason on why everyone likes Halloween.

Everyone has their own reasons as to why they like celebrating Halloween, but sophomore Hazel Martinez enjoys the time before and after trick or treating with her cousins.

“I enjoy going before going trick or treating, and after with my cousins because we always get to see each other’s creativity while we’re making our own costumes. We all make jokes and laugh,” Martinez said. after Hazel cousins and she are done trick or treating,

“we all huddle up in a circle and dump out all the candy in my Aunt’s bed, fighting over what candy we want.” Martinez says

Some people get into the Halloween spirit by decorating their homes with spooky decorations. Others buy a lot of candy to pass out to the little Trick or Treaters. Some even throw on a scary costume to scare little kids or just kids in general. When sophomore Oscar Umana was about eight or nine, Umana and the daughter of his mom’s friend went trick or treating as Spider-Man and The Woman in White, respectively. That Halloween night, they both received a memorable fright after collecting candy from a neighboring house.

“When we got the candy and left the house, this guy dressed up as a wolf jumped out of a bush and scared us, so she and I started running to the car while the guy followed us. And so I don’t know how, but the trunk was open so we just jumped in the back and went home,” Umana said.

At the beginning of October, stores with the sole purpose of selling Halloween costumes and decor pop up. But, some think the costumes that some stores sell are not good at all, so they choose to make their own. They like to be original.

“If I’m going to dress up as something, I’m going to make my own costume because it is something really fun to do. You get to choose what you want on it,” Martinez, said. Sometimes I get to dress up with my cousins which makes it even better.”
Umana is also willing to put in the work if he chooses to dress up for Halloween.

If I do dress up, I would want to dress up as something cool not with one of those costumes that sell at Walmart. Like a full outfit. Which means I’ll probably end up making my own costume,” Umana said
