The Cypress Ridge Choir will be hosting their annual Dessert Theater on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the commons. This is a way to give choir students a chance to showcase pop songs of their choice like ‘No Scrubs’ by TLC and ‘Location’ by Khalid.

There will a dessert competition for cobblers, pies, and cakes.  The top three winners are chosen by the judges, choir teachers BJ Douglas and Travis Jones, and will receive a $20 gift card to any restaurant.

Each choir class will be performing the songs of their choice, but students could also collaborate with other choir periods. Concert Choir student, junior Angel Morris, is in her sixth year of being in Choir and will be performing with her sixth-period class, while sophomore D’maya White will be performing with her Chamber fifth period class.

“I’m only nervous because I’m performing it by myself as a solo so it’s kind of new experience, [and] I haven’t sung a solo ever. I’ve always done a duet through all of middle school,” Morris said.

Choir also held auditions this week for the solo and duet acts to perform before the concert officially starts. The winners will entertain the crowd with their performance while the audience eats their dessert.

“[Dessert theater] is different from all the other ones we do, we always just stick to traditions and do the basic songs that people don’t really know of or are well known,” White said. “You get to enjoy our singing and desserts from entertainment to full stomachs.”

Choir students will be selling tickets during the week leading up to the concert for $5 and will also be sold at the event for the same price.
