Cypress Ridge’s second annual Regal Rams Summit for young men was hosted on September 8. The summit featured various speakers from around the school, including former Pro-Football player Harvey Williams, who was the closing speaker for the event. Freshmen Rigo Cortes and Dominick Pollard attended the summit in a group.

“All the speakers were really helpful, including Harvey Williams,” Cortes said. “He talked to us like we were his kids. It was really inspiring.”

English teacher Caleb Sanderson and and wrestling coach Tim Ray spoke about etiquette and expectations, respectively.

“I enjoyed it, really,” Pollard said. “They had some interesting stuff to say.”

The summit was organized with the  freshmen class of boys divided into eight separate groups. These groups, lead by teachers toured around the school to hear  inspiring talks from each of the faculty and guest speakers. The third annual Regal Rams summit for girls followed a similar setup the day before.

“I liked the way it went and took us through the day,” Pollard said. “It wasn’t demanding, and we were able to chill a lot.”

Senior volunteers ushered the freshmen students from speaker to speaker.  Senior Daniel Ruiz was one of these volunteers.

“I really enjoyed it,” said Ruiz. “It was nice to meet new people, although they were a lot to get used to.”

Ruiz accompanied Pollard and Cortes’ group “Determination”.

“I learned some new things, too,” Ruiz says. “It’s very interesting.”

Williams delivered his speech at the end of the day. His focus was to inspire much of the young audience to keep them moving forward with their high school career.

“I’m feeling pretty good looking forward,” Cortes said. “It’s gonna be a great four years.”
