The Mighty Ram Marching Band Goes to UIL
October 19, 2015
After a long season and an extensive amount of preparation, the Mighty Ram Marching Band attended UIL along with all Cy-Fair High Schools on the 17th of Oct. From 9:15 A.M to 1:45 P.M; The band’s performance titled The Aviary earned a 2nd division score for the season. The Aviary featured music from the popular child story Peter and the Wolf, Adele’s song Skyfall, and Tchaikovsky.
The band consist of performers from freshmen to seniors who play a variety of many different wind, brass, and percussion. For many of the new freshmen this is their first time at UIL. “UIL was fun, made us all work together and be a family on the field, Ohana,” Jackeline Navarrete, a freshmen flute said. Even though there was a handful of seniors marching in the show, many of the freshmen where meeting the level of there fellow upperclassmen.
For many of the seniors, this was there last time performing on the field, most keeping in mind a traditional marching band quote that the former band director Andrew Nixon, would always tell there band before a big performance, “What you give is what you get. We will not quit until it is perfect and we march with Ram Pride.”
The band invested many hours into the eight minute performance and spent almost every afternoon rehearsing their show and even a portion of there summer. “I think our performance was subpar” junior baritone Jesse Martinez said.
Unfortunately for many band students, this would be the last time they would perform the three part show. The end of marching season for the band has begun and now half time performances will consist of stand tunes and small marching segments. For the younger students in the band, they will have next years UIL to look forward to and for many seniors, this will be there last time performing the show in there uniforms. Nonetheless, this marching season was a wonderful showcase for all Cy-Fair high schools.
