Horror Films in past years have progressively become worse, whether it is the movie graphics, story plot or the acting. The Visit, being the only exception, brings to the table a perfect plot twist containing drama, action, humor and most importantly, horror and suspense. Overall, The Visit rated 97% fresh and 66% rotten, giving it an average of 5.6 out of 10 on Rotten Tomatoes. Although the movie is rated PG-13, viewer discretion is advised, as nudity, language and graphic content is involved.

The movie starts out with sister and brother Becca and Tyler going away to their grandparents farm house in which their single mom has not talked to in years. The kids plan to stay at their grandparents house for a week while their mom and her boyfriend go on a cruise. The Visit is partially filmed through Becca’s video camera and then shifts to a regular overview as she makes a documentary for her mom.

During the kids’ stay, the grandparents warn them to go to bed at 9:30 P.M. for their own good. Peculiar to the idea of going to sleep early, they get a taste of their first strange and horrifying encounter with their grandma on the first night. Bewildered at what they saw, they confront their grandpa about their grandma’s well-being and their grandpa reassures them that it is just old age, and mentions they go to sleep at 9:30 again.

The movie progresses with unusual and grotesque encounters between the kids and their grandparents with Becca documenting all activities. The kids communicate with their mom through Skype continuously after they know something is really wrong with their grandparents, yet their mom reassures them that it is just old age, until the last day when, spoiler alert, their mom realizes that the people who claim to be their grandparents are really not. She hurriedly tells them to find safety and to stay clear from them.  That night at the farm the family decides to have a game night and stay up past 9:30. Soon after, the grandpa puts their grandma to sleep when she starts acting out of the norm. The kids try to escape to no avail when their grandpa comes back.

In a violent turn of events the grandpa forces Becca into the room with her grandma, while he unpleasantly tortures Tyler. Back in the room Becca is attacked by the grandma as she is brutally shoved in the mirror, and when she fights her grandma, she takes a shard of glass and stabs her, immediately killing the women posing as her grandma.

In an attempt to save her brother, Becca goes downstairs and is forcefully shoved down onto the floor. Tyler, on a sudden rampage, kills his grandpa when he repeatedly slams the fridge door on his grandpa’s head. The kids run out of the house in an effort to escape when they see cop cars pull up and their mom rushes to their aid.
