Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck Movie Review
May 27, 2015
After 20 years since his death, the Kurt Cobain documentary, Montage of Heck, was released on April 24, 2015, and then released on HBO on May 4, 2015, and it is heart breaking. The documentary on the late lead front man of Nirvana is the first real documentary with the full cooperation of Cobain’s family, with Brett Morgen as the director, and the artist only daughter, Francis Bean Cobain, as the executive producer.
This movie will make you see Kurt Cobain in a whole new, different light. Whether you are a fan or not, this movie is captivating.
The film starts off with old family videos featuring Cobain, a happy one year old with the old time white picket fence setting. Loved by his family and anyone who he happened to meet, and as the film progresses that white picket fence starts to fade and you start to see the Cobain you think you know. The movie features animated scenes, also unreleased music, paintings, notes, and voice diaries left behind by Cobain that have never been heard or seen by the public. The film is not aimed to put old rumors and myths about Cobain to an end, nor to idolize him; it is to tell the story of the artist, his struggles. It is definitely a must see.
