Cypress Ridge journalism students attended the ILPC Journalism Convention and competition on April 18-19 at the University of Texas. The 2014-2015 yearbook won two UIL awards in the Yearbook Individual Achievement competition for feature spread and academic spread.

Yearbook spreads are submitted by the adviser and judged by industry professionals against journalism programs across Texas. The academic spread (page 28-29) over classes beyond the core took second place. It was written and edited by Vinetra Grigsby and Keaira Tubbs, and the pictures were taken by Monica De La Pena and Max Aguilar. The feature spread (page 18-19) covered the “Rams Got Talent” talent show and took third place. It was written and edited by Karen Espinoza. Monica De La Pena, Max Aguilar and David Pham took the pictures.

In addition to the competition, the newspaper and yearbook students attended sessions about writing, editing, reporting, management, advertising, photography, videography and graphic design. Presenters included professional journalists and media, professors, teachers and advocates.
